A step-by-step guide to listing and selling your cycling gear on VeloBand.
Getting Your Account Ready
Before you can list anything, your profile needs to be complete. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Profile and make sure you have:
- Your city and postal code filled in.
- Your phone number verified.
The Selling Status section at the bottom of the page shows what is missing and what is ready.
Setting Up Payments
If you want buyers to purchase directly through VeloBand (recommended), you need to connect a payment account. Click “Connect Stripe” in the Selling Status section and follow the steps. This is a one-time setup.
Without a payment account, buyers can still message you and arrange purchases offline, but you will not have access to shipping or Exchange Point delivery options.
Creating a Listing
Click the Sell button in the header to open the listing wizard. It walks you through five steps.
Step 1: Choose a Category
Pick the category that best fits your item. Categories are organized in a tree, so start broad (e.g. Bikes) and drill down (e.g. Road > Racing). The category you choose determines which fields appear in the next steps.
Step 2: Add Photos
Upload up to 10 photos. Drag and drop or use the upload button. The first photo becomes your cover image. You can drag to reorder them.
Step 3: Fill In the Details
Add a title, description, condition, and any category-specific attributes (like frame size, wheel size, or groupset). Be honest and detailed. If there are scratches or worn parts, mention them.
Serial Number
For bicycles and frames, you can enter the serial number (usually found on the bottom of the frame). This is optional for most categories but strongly recommended. When you publish, we check the serial number against stolen bike databases. If no reports are found, your listing gets a green “Serial Verified” badge, which builds buyer trust and can help your listing sell faster.
Step 4: Set Your Price and Delivery
Enter your asking price in your local currency (CAD if you are in Canada, USD if in the United States), choose which delivery methods you want to offer, and decide whether to enable Buy Now and offers.
Delivery Methods
You can offer one or more of the following:
- Local Pickup: Buyer picks up from your location. Your address is shared only after the purchase is confirmed.
- Meetup: You choose a public meeting spot. Good for items you do not want picked up from home.
- Shipping: You ship the item to the buyer. Set a shipping cost when you select this option. Shipping is available for parts, accessories, and gear. Individual sellers cannot ship complete bicycles.
- Exchange Point: Drop off at a partner bike shop. They verify the item and the buyer picks it up. No need to meet the buyer. Available for bicycles only.
Buy Now
Turning on Buy Now lets buyers purchase immediately through the platform with a credit card. This requires a connected payment account. Listings with Buy Now sell faster because buyers do not have to negotiate or arrange payments.
Offers
You can allow buyers to make offers below your asking price. Optionally set a minimum offer amount to avoid lowball offers. When an offer comes in, you can accept, decline, or counter with a different price.
Step 5: Review and Publish
Review everything one last time. You can preview how your listing will look to buyers. When you are ready, hit Publish. Your listing goes through a brief review and then goes live.
Not ready to publish? Save it as a draft and come back later. Your progress is also auto-saved, so you will not lose your work if you close the browser.
Managing Your Listings
All your listings are in Dashboard > My Listings, organized by status: Active, Draft, In Review, Sold, and more. From here you can move listings back to draft, delete them, or publish saved drafts.
Responding to Buyers
When a buyer sends you a message, you will see an unread count on the envelope icon in the header. Click it to go to your messages. In Dashboard > Messages under the Selling tab, messages are grouped by listing so you can easily see which product each conversation is about.
Respond quickly. Buyers often message multiple sellers, and the first to reply usually gets the sale.
Managing Offers
If you enabled offers on a listing, incoming offers appear in Dashboard > Offers. For each offer you can:
- Accept: The buyer can then proceed to checkout at the agreed price.
- Counter: Propose a different price. The buyer can accept or walk away.
- Decline: Reject the offer.
Completing a Sale
When a buyer pays through the platform, the sale appears in Dashboard > Sales. What happens next depends on the delivery method:
- Local Pickup / Meetup: Coordinate with the buyer to hand over the item.
- Shipping: Ship the item and enter the tracking number. The buyer is notified and can track the delivery.
- Exchange Point: Drop off the item at the selected bike shop. They handle the rest.
Your payment is released once the buyer confirms they received the item.
Fees
Listing on VeloBand is free. When a sale is completed through the platform, a platform fee is deducted from the sale amount. You can see the exact fee breakdown in your sale details. There are no hidden charges.
